Commercial Door Hardware and Electrified Openings

Commercial door hardware works best when the door, frame, lock, closer, exit device, power supply and access-control system are designed as one opening. Avenger Security evaluates the complete opening before recommending hardware for offices, warehouses, retail properties, schools, churches, multifamily communities and other commercial facilities in Austin and Central Texas.

Start with the condition of the opening

An electronic access-control problem is often mechanical first. A door that drags, a frame that is out of square, worn hinges, a weak closer or a latch that does not align can cause repeated lock and reader failures. We inspect the opening, identify the actual fault and explain what should be repaired or replaced before adding electronics.

Electrified opening design

Where the opening permits it, we generally prefer fail-secure electric strikes, electrified locksets or motorized latch-retraction hardware that preserves normal free egress from the secure side. Electromagnetic locks are not our routine default; they are considered only when the opening, adopted code, approved plans and authority having jurisdiction support that configuration.

A request-to-exit device can report or suppress an authorized egress event, but it should not be treated as the only means of unlocking a door where free egress is required. Door-position monitoring helps distinguish a valid credential event from a door that is forced or held open.

Life safety, accessibility and rated openings

Final hardware selection depends on the door and frame construction, occupancy, accessibility requirements, fire rating, adopted codes and the authority having jurisdiction. Fire-rated openings must retain the required listing, latching and compatible hardware. We coordinate the access-control design with the approved life-safety sequence instead of treating the lock as an isolated device.

2. Confirm how the opening must behave during normal use, power loss and a life-safety event.
3. Recommend repair, replacement or electrification options with clear scope boundaries.
4. Install, align, test and document the completed opening.
5. Train the authorized customer contacts on everyday operation and escalation.
